Credits Accepted from More Than 23,000 Programs

ECCU accepts credits from institutions recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or an accepted foreign equivalent listed in the International Handbook of Universities.

This encompasses over 7,600 degree-granting and non–degree-granting institutions, including more than 23,000 programs accredited by U.S. accrediting organizations. Thus, many deserving candidates can avail themselves of the opportunity to transfer credits to ECCU.

High Number of Transfer Credits Available

At ECCU, students can transfer up to 18 graduate hours of credits from prior learning experiences for the Master of Science in Cyber Security (MSCS) program. For undergraduate courses, students can receive up to 30 transfer credits in addition to the minimum 60 credits required for entrance, for a total of 90 transfer credit hours. Note that graduate and undergraduate credit cannot be given for the same certification.

The Credit Transfer Policy at EC-Council University

ECCU facilitates the transfer of credits for college-level courses from accredited U.S. or foreign equivalent institutions, which may vary on a case-by-case basis. However, there are certain set criteria for allowing the transfer of credits to the different programs at ECCU.

Basic Requirements for Credit Transfer

College-level courses should be accredited by the U.S. Secretary of Education, CHEA, or a foreign equivalent listed in the International Handbook of Universities. Credits earned from computer technology courses should have been obtained within the last 10 years.

For the MSCS and graduate certificate programs, students must have earned a grade of B or higher in the course for which they’re seeking transfer credit. For the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security (BSCS) program, the students must have a grade of C or better.

Applying for Credit Transfer

Students applying to transfer credits to ECCU must submit an official transcript or NACES/NAFSA evaluation if the student attended college or university outside the United States. ECCU then determines the potential transfer credits available after evaluating these transcripts. The transfer credit must be equivalent to the university’s corresponding degree coursework and educational level.

Calculation of Transfer Credits

All credits that are transferred should be mapped to ECCU program requirements. A student’s cumulative grade point average (GPA) is not based on the credits transferred, and students cannot claim transfer for the same certification for both graduate and undergraduate programs. ECCU may accept credits from the military and nontraditional sources on a case-by-case basis.

Credits Based on Industry Certifications

Students with industry-recognized certifications can also apply to transfer credits from these certifications toward programs at ECCU. To request credits based on industry certifications, students must present proof of completed certifications.

The ECCU administrative team awards credits after assessing the candidate’s documents and industry certifications. Students must ensure that their certifications are not more than 1 year past the expiration date to be eligible for a credit transfer.
