Starting as a core UNIX administrator, Narayanan became a senior manager specializing in compliance for a leading cybersecurity product company. His journey is a perfect example of a steady transition in cybersecurity through continuous learning.
Early Career and Transition to Cybersecurity
Narayanan began his career in technology as a UNIX administrator. This foundational role helped him gain insights into operating systems, particularly in the Linux and open-source domains. Companies like IBM and HP recognized his expertise, leading to collaboration on various projects and solutions. While addressing the technical challenges of these projects, Narayanan developed an interest in cybersecurity.
After encountering security vulnerabilities and witnessing the potential consequences of cyber threats, he recognized the essential role of cybersecurity in safeguarding digital assets and systems. Driven by the insights, he consciously transitioned to a consulting and services company to explore the multifaceted world of cybersecurity.
I worked on various areas of Linux and open source, developed a few products and solutions on top of that, and worked with leading vendors like IBM and HP. During that time, I came across many security problems, and that attracted me to cybersecurity.

At the consulting firm, Narayanan’s role encompassed various cybersecurity domains, ranging from application security to network security, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), and SOC (Security Operations Center) operations. What attracted me is the depth of the topics, the hands-on labs and the projects, webinars, the weekly activities that are being part of the program. That was very attractive.
